Description

Harbour Authority (SHA) is a non-profit organization that manages the largest fishing harbour in Canada. SHA is made up of a team of diverse men and women who are working collaboratively to fulfill our mandate of providing Safety, Service and Security to Commercial Fisherman.

To apply for this position, you must;

  • Must have integrity and be of good character.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communications skills.
  • Have successfully completed Grade 12 or have a grade 12 equivalency.
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Have a valid BC Security Workers License or have the ability to obtain a BC Security Workers License.
  • Be able to lift and carry loads of 20-35lbs of weight over short distances.
  • Be able to upkeep and maintain a Uniform.
  • Be self-motivated, organized and work well within a team environment.
  • Have customer service skills.
  • Have fluent computer knowledge to search data bases, answer emails and update a website form daily.
  • Be able to perform extensive foot patrols on sometimes uneven ground and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment including extreme weather conditions.
  • Have the ability to problem solve.
  • Be comfortable with using technology such as mobile applications and handheld devices.
  • Be adaptable to change.
  • Clean background check.

Preferred assets;

  • Basic Security training (BST).
  • Conflict Resolution training.
  • Security related experience.
  • Occupational First Aid 1.
  • Environmental spill training.
  • Knowledge of the Commercial Fishing Industry.
  • Vessel/Boat knowledge.
  • Nautical knot tying.
  • Proficient computer knowledge.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Performs daily foot and mobile patrol of floats, piers, wharves and upland facilities to ensure that all gear, vessels and assets are safe.
  • Ensures all vessels, buildings and vehicles on site are locked and secure.
  • Provide customer service to Harbour users and members of the public face to face and over the telephone.
  • Perform daily boat counts and ensure vessels are properly tied up in the event of inclement weather.
  • Lock and open site gates at various hours
  • Ensures all harbour users and members of the public comply with Harbour Authority directives and enforces directives when necessary.
  • Enforce parking regulations.
  • Inspect shore power cables and that vessels are connecting with approved equipment.
  • Responds to emergencies onsite such as environmental spills and vessels taking on water.
  • Write and submit on a handheld Occurrence and Maintenance Reports.
  • Observe vessel waterlines and be proactive with vessels that may be in distress.
  • Empty onsite garbage bins on a daily basis.
  • Provide a uniformed presence on all SHA properties.
  • Preform security scan point tours as set out by the Operations and Security Manager.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Operations and Security Manager.

The Steveston Harbour Authority manages Canada’s largest Commercial Fishing Harbour for the Federal Government of Canada (Small Craft Harbours). We provide Service, Security and Safety to the Commercial Fisherman and upland tenants.

Maintenance Personnel

Job Description

General Maintenance Labourer (Full-time casual) – Maintenance Department

Location: Richmond, BC

Status: currently no openings

Description

Steveston Harbour Authority (SHA) is a non-profit organization that manages the largest fishing harbour in Canada. SHA is made up of a team of diverse men and women who are working collaboratively to fulfill our mandate of providing Safety, Service and Security to Commercial Fisherman.

We currently are not accepting applicants as a full-time casual General Maintenance Labourer in our Maintenance Department.

Key responsibilities include:

Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, performs general maintenance and repairs at both the Paramount and Gulf sites.

  • Operates maintenance equipment such as forklift, bobcat, tractor, truck, hoist, boats, etc. and ensures that all equipment is kept as secure as possible. Also ensures any equipment safety concerns are brought to the immediate attention of the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Notes any maintenance to equipment in appropriate equipment log
  • Assists in emergency response situations as required.
  • Performs interior and exterior painting of buildings, grounds area, curbs, floats, docks and piers.
  • Performs minor plumbing and electrical repairs.
  • Performs cement work and asphalt repairs.
  • Performs metal or vinyl work and repairs.
  • Performs roofing and related repairs.
  • Performs the maintenance and upkeep of the workshop, all tools and equipment.
  • Performs general clean up of grounds and all other facilities.
  • May be required to be on call for after hours emergency maintenance and repairs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor or Operations Manager.

Hourly rate is negotiable based on skillset and experience.
